If it wasn’t for technology I don’t know if I would have been able to handle not seeing my family for 9 years. My mum has come to Australia twice since we immigrated but I haven’t seen her since 2018. I am currently pregnant with my second child and we’re not sure if my parents will be able to visit because of the flights and the cost of living which are so expensive.
My mum is a registered nurse working as a manager at a dementia facility in Cape Town and would be able to assist with filling the jobs that will be created by the Labour government in aged care, however, due to her being over the age of 55 she doesn’t qualify for any skilled visa.
We are also using my husband’s inheritance to pay for one of my parent’s visas as they would not be able to afford to pay for both.
To say we’re heartbroken is an understatement…
