Very disappointing that after years of being here, now we are thinking of moving to another country with a better Parent Visa policy.

I moved to Australia as a skilled migrant in 2013 and one of the reasons I chose to apply for PR in Australia at the time was the quick processing time of parents PR- 18 to 24 months. This despite a hefty amount of fees was the deciding factor to make Australia home- to settle and raise a family.
Whilst here, I was informed that as my parents were nearing pension age it might be better to wait and apply for the Aged Parent Visa as they will be able to live with us while the substantive visa is being processed. When it was time to apply for their Aged Parent Visa- I was informed that because they weren’t onshore and couldn’t be here due to the pandemic I couldn’t apply for an onshore/ Aged parent visa.
So, for my sanity, amidst the pandemic chaos, as suggested by my Immi to my Local MP- I applied for a 143 Visa for my parents last year. As per the current calculations, this visa applied last year will be granted in 15-18 years. I’m not even sure if my parents will be able to see the visa grant due to their age. The parent visa system is an absolute joke in this country. The immigration website is not up to date with getting an estimate on time taken from the application to grant as per current times. Very disappointing that after years of being here, now we are thinking of moving to another country with a better Parent Visa policy.
